John 3:16: Eternity Awaits You

He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes 3:11

For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones. Isaiah 57:15

A Sacred Marriage Leads Us to a Holy God

The Bible begins and ends with marriage, and right in the middle, we have an entire book, the Song of Songs, devoted to the romance of marriage. God called Israel His wife, and the church is called the Bride of Christ.

Marriage is blessed, and Gary Thomas has written a marriage-changing book asking the question, “What if God designed marriage to make us holy more than to make us happy?”

That question changes the entire focus from how marriage will bring me happiness and pleasure to how I can bring glory to God through my marriage.  Continue reading A Sacred Marriage Leads Us to a Holy God

3 Reasons to Love Others

Rainbow - 1

In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.  1 John 4:9-11

When I describe the love of my Mama and Daddy, I talk about Mama sewing beautiful dresses for me while I was growing up. I tell of the time that Daddy stayed up with me into the early morning hours working on an essay I was having trouble with. I tell of their hard work to make the money last through the month, so that we were comfortable.

I know their love for their children when I remember their actions … their self-sacrifices for us. Through their love, I learned what love looks like and how to love others. Continue reading 3 Reasons to Love Others

47 Years of Delight

Celebrating my Beloved on our 47th Anniversary

My beloved is radiant and respected, distinguished among myriads. His head overflows with the wisdom of the ancients. His eyes shine as the sun’s rays over Jerusalem at dawn. His cheeks are like jasmine tea leaves and mounds of fragrant herbs found at Siem Reap. His lips are sweet, dripping honey and cinnamon from Vietnam. His arms are muscular and strong, ready to protect in the jungles of Cambodia. His body is lean and masculine, rising in Ha Long Bay, majestic and peaceful. My beloved’s legs are columns of marble found in the Taroko Gorge, tried and strong. His appearance is like the Dolomite Mountains, bold and magnificent. His mouth speaks words of kindness, and he is altogether desirable.

This is my beloved, and this is my friend.

I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine.

Happy Birthday, My Beloved Adventurer

Delight yourself in the Lord,
And He will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4

Delight in God’s Word brought prayer. Prayers for a stranger brought a man prepared for me from before the foundation of the world.

You walked into my life, and God gave me the desires of my heart.

Our Father blessed me with a man focused on love, service, and adventure –

my delight and my desire.

Happy birthday, my beloved adventurer!

I love you dearly.

My prayer

Our Father, there is no god like You! You created the one distinct man to complete me. Bless him, I pray, with an ever-increasing love for You, with Your perfect wisdom, and with Your grace, peace, and joy. Thank you, Father, for this man.  Amen!
