“Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! His faithful love endures forever.”
1 Chronicles 16:34 (NLT)
The Israelites brought the Ark of the Covenant to the City of David and placed it in the special tent that David had prepared. They offered burnt and peace offerings. After David blessed the people and gave them food, he gave Asaph and his fellow Levites a worship song. That day, the Israelites had an appointment with Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving was a focus of the Israelites that continued throughout the New Testament.
Remembering how God had worked in their nation, the Israelites responded with“His faithful love endures forever.”
The exact phrase, “His faithful love endures forever” appears in the New Living Translation 40 times.
Thanksgiving is also throughout the New Testament.
“Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to His name.”
Hebrews 13:15 NLT
Christians are called to offer a sacrifice of praise (thanksgiving) to God because this world isn’t our permanent home. Our forever home is with God.
The Wampanoag and the English settlers formed an alliance in 1621. After a hard winter of sickness, at least 90 Wampanoag and 52 English men, women, and children celebrated a bountiful fall harvest at Plymouth, Massachusetts.
Like that first feast, America has endured suffering, but on this day, let’s remember God’s work in America.
Like the Israelites, may we proclaim that God is good and “His faithful love endures forever!“
May your appointment with Thanksgiving be a celebration of praise.
What are you thanking God for today?
