6 Traits That Define America’s Veterans

I was thinking about the courage and strength of America’s veterans. I was reminded of Joshua and what it took for him to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land. God revealed 6 traits that define America’s veterans.

America’s freedom is costly. Thank a veteran and the veteran’s family for their sacrifice for that freedom.

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:8-9

This Veteran’s Day, let’s consider what it takes to be a person who serves diligently for the cause of freedom. America has been blessed by men and women who served with courage and strength for the cause of freedom. Veterans and their families have sacrificed comfort, separation from family and friends, health, and the possibility of death.

The Bible speaks of the battle for righteousness and freedom. We’re even told in Ephesians 6:10-18 to put on the whole armor of God. The Christian life is a battle, but the battle is the Lord’s.

In Joshua 1, we learn what traits for the battle are important. They are the traits many of America’s veterans have displayed.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

Psalm 119:105

“Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!” Psalm 27:14

“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

Deuteronomy 31:6

“For I, the LORD your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, ‘Fear not, I am the one who helps you.’”

Isaiah 41:13

“Peace I [Jesus] leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”

John 14:27

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20
