“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.“
2 Corinthians 3:17 (CSB)
Freedom came to Christians with a cost. Jesus laid down His life for this freedom. Men and women have laid down their lives for this freedom, and they continue to do this. Veterans Day is a day to pray.
Veterans Day is a day to remember that freedom comes with a great cost. Veterans Day is a day to pray a prayer of thanksgiving for the freedom men and women have fought for and are continuing to fight for today. Veterans Day is a day to pray for the men and women who served and their families.
“Today, as never before, we must pray for God’s help in broadening and deepening the peace we enjoy. Let us pray for freedom and justice and a more stable world.”
Ronald Reagan, Veterans Day National Cemetary, Arlington Cemetary, November 11, 1985
Our Father in Heaven, You have blessed America with great freedom. This land’s people are free to worship You, to explore this beautiful land, to live and work wherever You have placed us, and to determine our governance. Lord of Heaven’s Armies, thank You for the veterans who have made this freedom possible. Thank You for the families who supported the veterans as they served America. King of Kings and Lord of Lords, bless America’s veterans and current military members. Bless their families and give them strength. Pour out Your peace upon America and turn America’s heart back to You. In Jesus’ name, we pray, amen.
Veterans Day: A Day to Thank God for America The Beautiful
O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed His grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
O beautiful for pilgrim feet,
Whose stern, impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!
O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine,
Till all success be nobleness,
And every gain divine!
O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed His grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
