“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men.” John 1:1-4
Jesus is all in all. He is God. In Him we find life and light for the way He wants us to walk.
“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
Not too long ago, I opened my eyes to pitch black, not even a star shining through the windows. Peering into the darkness, I rolled out of bed, started walking, and fell onto the bathtub. Disoriented and going in a direction that I had not intended, I needed a flashlight.
That’s what my life walk looks like sometimes. I’m looking at the darkness, taking action, stumbling, and sometimes falling.
Darkness might be all around me, but if I have a burning candle or a flashlight, I can walk without stumbling.
The darkness, the evil, of this world is all around us. But Jesus is our light. He shows us the way. Following Him, looking to Him, we have life. His path is sure and good.
Jesus, thank You for lighting the way for us. This is a dark world, Lord, but You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Thank you for coming to the world to light our way and to pay the price we owed for our sins. We look to You for life everlasting. Thank You, Jesus. Amen.
