3 Gifts of God That Make All the Difference

Grace, love, and fellowship from the Prince of Peace, Mighty God and Eternal Father, and our Wonderful Counselor – for you and me!

Grace bestowed upon us from Jesus has been described as God’s riches at Christ’s expense. Grace flows from Jesus on the cross to wash our sins away with His blood. Grace that cost everything!

Love gave the Father’s only begotten Son to become my sin, your sin upon the cross, so that you and I might have life everlasting in the presence of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Love that surpasses understanding!

Fellowship breathed into those who trust in Jesus – an eternal fellowship of grace and love through the Holy Spirit. Fellowship that lasts forever! Continue reading 3 Gifts of God That Make All the Difference

5 Tips to Falling in Love with God’s Word

Slide1

Flitting from one flower to another, sucking pollen or nectar until her sac is full, then off to the beehive where thousands of honey bees feverishly work. It takes 300 bees 3 weeks to make 450 grams or almost a pound of honey. (Australian Honey Bee Industry Council)

All that hard work for a pound of sweetness. Honey was used in Bible times instead of sugar, and the Promised Land was a land flowing with milk and honey. It was an honored gift, Genesis 43:11. Honey also coats a sore throat and revives energy.

How sweet is the Bible to you? Is it sweeter to you than honey?

The Word of God will always be sweet to the Christian because it so completely quickens him to every good thing when it comes in contact with him. Spurgeon Continue reading 5 Tips to Falling in Love with God’s Word

Have you chosen a hard life? 3 steps to the good life

Israel

I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, by loving the LORD your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days, that you may live in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them. Deuteronomy 30:19-20

I had lunch with a new high school graduate. He told me his immediate plans for the future: get a tattoo, stretch his earlobes, and get a job. There are long-term plans as well. No plans for Jesus. I told him that his plans for his body will limit the type of job he will be able to get. He acknowledged that.

He chose the hard life.

The Israelites listened to the blessings of following God and the curses of disobedience. Blessings brought life and prosperity. Curses brought death and adversity.

3 steps to the good life

  1. Loving the LORD. “Hear O Israel! The Lord our God is one! You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” Deuteronomy 6:4-5
  2. Obeying His voice. “Samuel said, ‘Has the LORD as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams.'” 1 Samuel 15:22
  3. Holding fast to Him. “For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end,” Hebrews 3:14

Blessing

Dwelling in the promised land. For the Israelites, the promised land flowed with milk and honey. God had given it to them; they just needed to possess it. For Christians, the promised land is eternal life through following Jesus.

The Israelites took the three steps for awhile and enjoyed the blessing. They turned away and returned many times; each time, experiencing curses or blessings. Ultimately, a remnant will return to the Lord, loving Him, obeying Him, and holding fast to Him. They chose a hard life, but they will enter the good life at the end of this world.

I’m trusting that in this young man’s wanderings, he will find the path to eternal life by becoming a follower of Jesus and learn how to take the three steps that lead to the good life.

Prayer is powerful.

My prayer for you

Father, You have set before us life and death, blessings and curses. Help us to understand how deeply You love us. Your lovingkindness leads us to repentence. Obedience follows. Increase our ability to hold fast to You. Increase our desire for You and Your fellowship. Thank You, Lord. In the nature and name of Jesus, we pray. Amen

What path have you chosen?

A divine appointment with a surprise ending

ruins

25 But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns of praise to God, and the prisoners were listening to them; 26 and suddenly there came a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison house were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were unfastened. Acts 16:25-26

We set a young woman free of her evil spirit. We proclaimed the Word of God. For that, our clothes were torn off us, and we were beaten with many rods, taken to the inner prison and locked in stocks!

He put them into the inner prison, the dungeon, into which none were usually put but condemned malefactors, dark at noon-day, damp and cold, dirty, it is likely, and every way offensive, like that into which Jeremiah was let down (Jer. 38:6); and, as if this were not enough, he made their feet fast in the stocks. Matthew Henry

In the midst of pain, darkness, filth, and fatigue, Silas and Paul prayed and sang.

Some of the sweetest times I’ve spent with the Lord have been those times of great pain. In that pain, by His grace, the Holy Spirit focused me on God’s great love, His awesome rest.

People watched Paul and Silas in their pain. People watched me in the pain of fibromyalgia. People are watching you.

In the prayer and worship, God worked a miracle. He sent an earthquake to open the prison doors and break the chains of pain.

“What must I do to be saved?”

“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

The divine appointment?

Appointed with  rods and stocks.

Timed in the dark of midnight.

Punctuated with praying and singing.

Rocked in the earthquake.

Saved in mercy.

Wrapped in the love of God.

Sometimes divine appointments begin in pain, but they always end glorifying God.

I wonder what miracles and salvation would result if the world found us praying and singing praises in the midst of our trials, our pain, our dark nights.

My prayer for you

Father, You alone know the divine appointments awaiting our obedience to Your guidance. Quicken our hearts and minds to rest in our circumstances. Empower us to pray and sing Your praises in whatever situation we find ourselves. We await Your divine appointments and give You the praise.
