“God is our refuge and strength,
always ready to help in times of trouble.” Psalm 46:1
Are you overwhelmed by the uncertainty of today? Thanksgiving was very different this year. We were still thankful, but we celebrated differently.
Did you find that the things that you were thankful for were different this year? Shelter, food, family, safety.
These are, indeed, times of trouble. But there is hope.

God is our shelter and our strength
Hear my cry, O God,
listen to my prayer;
from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint.
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I,
for you have been my refuge,
a strong tower against the enemy. Psalm 61:1-3
David found shelter in the caves of Ein Gedde, for God was with him.
When all seems to be crumbling around me, I can cry out to God and ask Him to lead me to safety. He is the protector of my soul.

God is ready to help
Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:14-16
Even in our weaknesses, we know that Jesus understands those weaknesses because He was tempted as we have been. Yet, He did not give in to those temptations. We can draw near to Jesus and be confident that He will help us, pouring out His mercy and grace upon us.

Be still and know God
“Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!” Psalm 46:10
Pause from the chaos, from the busyness, and consider God. Sink into the knowledge of Almighty God and rest there for awhile. Let Him speak to you. He is all-powerful, all-knowing, ever-present. He is the Creator of the Universe, your Creator. God loves you with an everlasting love.
Exalt His name and rejoice!
He is your refuge and strength.
Everlasting Father, we lift Your name high, for You are our strength when we have none. In uncertain times and times of trouble, You are our shelter and our protection. Help us to sink deeply into Your goodness, Your mercy, and Your grace. We want to know You more intimately. We rejoice because You love us. We exalt Your name and praise You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
