An excellent wife is the crown of her husband,
but she who brings shame is
like rottenness in his bones.
Proverbs 12:4
An excellent wife. I long to be an excellent wife. What is your definition of “excellent”? Before I looked up this word in Strongs Concordance, I defined it as a loving woman who partners with her husband in all that he does. She blesses her husband.
The word used for “excellent” is “chayil.” It means valor (courageous), strength, might, substance, virtue, efficiency, and ability.
This type of woman crowns her husband with honor.
However, the wife who is not excellent brings shame to her husband in such a way that the marriage decays.
There’s so much more that I need to consider when I ask if I am an excellent wife.
Israel will one day accept Jesus as Savior. When that day comes, God said that they would be a crown to Him.
“You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the LORD,
and a royal diadem in the hand of your God.”
Isaiah 62:3
My prayer
Father, Your gift of marriage is beautiful. I am overwhelmed at times with the responsibilities that I have as a wife. I long to be a crown to my husband, to be strong for him, courageous, and skilled. I want to bring him honor in all that I do. Guide, me Lord. Give me wisdom, Father. Grant me favor, Savior. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Please share in the comments section how you are crowning your husband. What would help you crown him with beauty?
