There is a Better Way!

Come, everyone who thirsts,
come to the waters;
and he who has no money,
come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
without money and without price.

Isaiah 55:1

Who works 9 to 5 anymore? Longer hours, more demands, 24/7 responsibilities! It seems like our world is on fire, literally, and in our lifestyles. Just like the heat outside, 100 degrees with no clouds in the sky and sun beating down on us, our to-do lists get longer, pounding us down mercilessly. Is our running from one demand to another getting us where we want to go?

There is a better way.

Pause to fill a glass with ice; pour cold water into it; take a deep breath; smile, and reflect upon the goodness of God as you slowly drink the water.

Through the Old Testament prophet, Isaiah, God told Israel that they could come to Him and enjoy a refreshed life.

Come to God. That was what was required. Still dirty, still sweaty, still broken, they came to God, just as they were. They turned from their current lifestyle, and they began to follow Him again.

Jesus beckons you and me to come.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Matthew 11:28-30

Jesus says “Come.” He will refresh us. He will quiet us. He will give us a patient expectation of the “more” that we need from Him. We will learn about His gentle spirit and the work that God has prepared us for. That work is easy or sure-fitting because God prepared this work for us to do before the beginning of the world, and He has equipped us for that work. Furthermore, Jesus is with us; the Holy Spirit abides in those who have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

All that we need to do is “Come.” Come to Jesus … just as we are … broken … sinners … exhausted.

Come to Jesus.

The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.

Revelation 22:17

My Prayer

Gentle Father, in You, we have rest. In You, we have all we need. In You, we are quieted. In You, is goodness beyond imagination. Father, we come to You just as we are. Refresh us with the Living Water of Jesus. Beckon Your children to drink freely from your water of life. Cause us to pause and reflect upon Your goodness, accept rest from Jesus, learn from Him, and take on the works that You have prepared for us to accomplish. We love You and adore You. In the name of Jesus, we come. Amen.
