“I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make its boast in the LORD; The humble shall hear of it and be glad. Oh, magnify the LORD with me, And let us exalt His name together. … Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!”
(Psalm 34:1-3; 8 NKJV)
Remembering how God has worked in your life is powerful. The word “remember” is my focus for 2026—remembering God at work in my life.
How are you remembering God at work in your life? His goodness.
Saul hunted for David to kill him. David hid in Gath (a Philistine city where Goliath and his brothers had lived—1 Samuel 17:23), but Abimelech chased David out of Gath.
What did David do? David called on the LORD (Yahweh, the Self-Existing One) and in His goodness, God delivered David.
And David wrote Psalm 34 in memory of God’s goodness and deliverance.
David, a man after God’s own heart meditated on the holiness and goodness of God. He also acknowledged that those who look upon God are radiant. They shine, beam, and sparkle. Radiant people bask in the Lord’s goodness, and that goodness flows out of their lives onto the lives of others.
Are you radiating God’s goodness?
Have others noticed?
“I sought the LORD, and He answered me and delivered me from all my fears. …
This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him and saved him out of all his troubles.” (Psalm 34:4; 6, emphasis added)
Remembering God’s Goodness
We focus on God and His presence, for we know that His plans for us are good. We meditate on His nature, Scripture, goodness, holiness, blessings, promises, and more.
“The infinite goodness of God could fill an infinite number of universes and an infinite number of books. Yet, the sliver we see of it is still a bounty, and abundance.” (Jen Wilkin, (In His Image: 10 Ways God Calls Us to Reflect His Character. p. 47)
Remembering God’s Creation
Think of it! God created the heavens and earth. He created all the creatures. He saw that it was good. Our Triune God created man in His own image and gave him dominion over “the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” (Genesis 1:28).
Then God saw everything that He had made and called it very good. (Genesis 1:31)
God lovingly created you, and His plans for you are good. You have a future and a hope. His thoughts toward you are of peace. (Jeremiah 29:11 NKJV) God’s thoughts of you are more than the sands of the sea (Psalm 139:17-18).
Remembering God’s Work in Your Life
The Israelites thanked God for His work in their lives and nation in Psalm 136. They began their meditation on God’s goodness by remembering His creation. The memories then focused on God’s goodness and works in their lives in verse 10. They began with God delivering them from slavery in Egypt, leading them through the wilderness, rescuing them from their enemies, giving them the Promised Land, and providing for them.
After each memory, they responded to God’s goodness with, “For His mercy endures forever.” (Psalm 136)
“For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.” (Psalm 100:5 NKJV)
How have your memories of God’s goodness in your life drawn you closer to Him?
Father of Lights, every good and perfect gift comes from You, for You are good and there is no variation or shadow in You. Your goodness and mercy endure forever, for You have worked mightily in our lives. As we remember Your goodness, we want others to taste and see Your goodness. Help us to reflect Your goodness upon others and point them to You, our good, good Father. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
