Remembering 2025 and Giving Thanks

New year … new beginnings … new hopes … new opportunities … new _______.

This year was hard, wasn’t it? Wars, rumors of war, Christian persecution, assassinations, famine, earthquakes, floods, and much more devastation. It sounds like Jesus describing the birth pangs of the end times in Matthew 24.

But good also came in 2025. The Creator of the Universe loves you and me so much that He pours out His beauty, mercy, love, and goodness upon all who will receive Him as their LORD. I’m remembering 2025 and giving thanks for God’s abundant blessings, for His steadfast love endures forever.

Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods, for His steadfast love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords, for His steadfast love endures forever;
to Him who alone does great wonders, for His steadfast love endures forever;
(Psalm 136:1-4 ESV)

Yahweh, the God of gods, Lord of lords loves you and me even when we sin. He will love us forever.

Give thanks is not the whole meaning of this word…and therefore calls us to thoughtful, grateful worship, spelling out what we know or have found of God’s glory and his deeds.” (Kidner)

Thoughtful, grateful, worshipful. Remembering His great wonders–His miracles. In 2025, I celebrated God’s miraculous healing of fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue 15 years ago.

This year brought surprising divine appointments, new opportunities to witness to others across the world. Great wonders.

His steadfast love endures forever!

to Him who by understanding made the heavens, for His steadfast love endures forever;
to Him who spread out the earth above the waters, for His steadfast love endures forever;
to Him who made the great lights, for His steadfast love endures forever;
the sun to rule over the day, for His steadfast love endures forever;
the moon and stars to rule over the night, for His steadfast love endures forever (Psalm 136-5-9 ESV)

To Him who created the heavens, for His steadfast love endures forever.

God opened our eyes to more of His handiwork in the earth, for His steadfast love endures forever.

To Him we give praise for the beauty in the heavens at home and abroad, for His steadfast love endures forever.

Glimpses of color radiate through the trees, for His steadfast love endures forever.

To our Creator we smile as we behold the sun setting, for His steadfast love endures forever.

Psalm 136:10-22 recounts the specific acts of God on behalf of Israel. Keith and I enjoyed the hand of God working powerfully in our lives in 2025. And we have seen God work in our nation.

To Him who brought us new friends from around the world, for His steadfast love endures forever.

We give thanks to Him who revealed peace in the wild, for His steadfast love endures forever.

To Him who pours out unexpected blessings of new adventures and cultures, for His steadfast love endures forever.

We praise His name as we meditate upon all His wonders, for His steadfast love endures forever.

To Him who turns tragedy into opportunities to spread the Good News, for His steadfast love endures forever.

We bow in adoration as He brings new believers into His kingdom, for His steadfast love endures forever.

To Him who gave the gift of fellowship and unity with others, for His steadfast love endures forever.

It is He who remembered us in our low estate, for His steadfast love endures forever;
and rescued us from our foes, for His steadfast love endures forever;
He who gives food to all flesh, for His steadfast love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of heaven, for His steadfast love endures forever.”
(Psalm 136-23-26 ESV)

It is He who remembered us in the Serengeti, for His steadfast love endures forever;

and protected us from wild animals, for His steadfast love endures forever.

He gives abundant and delicious food to us, for His steadfast love endures forever.

We give thanks to the God of heaven, for His steadfast love endures forever.

May you remember how God worked in your life in 2025 and rejoice.

Loving Father, Your steadfast love endures forever. Thank You. We look forward to how You will work in this world and in our lives in 2026. Pour out Your abundant blessings on each of those who call You Lord. Bring our family members, friends, and those we encounter to a saving knowledge of You. May 2026 be the year of a great awakening and revival, for Your steadfast love endures forever. In Jesus’ name, we pray, amen.
