God Almighty, the Great I AM, the Holiest of Holy One, the Creator of the heavens and earth sent His Son into the world. Jesus came to serve and redeem you and me. Jesus came to pay the price we owe because we have disobeyed God’s commands. We have sinned.
Do you have a list of things you need to do for Christmas? Gifts to prepare. Decorations to put up. Parties and events to attend. Christmas cards to send. Cakes, cookies, candies, and more to cook.
In all the hub-bub, we can lose sight of the reason we celebrate Christmas. Why would the God of the Universe send His only Son into the world?
Jesus Came to Serve
“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” [Mark 10:45 ESV]
Jesus walked this earth serving. Ministering to the needs of others.
The foremost need of the people was to understand God and His ways. He pointed people to God in ways that no rabbi had done before. The Son of God revealed the true nature of God as He served through teaching.
Teaching naturally led to further service. Jesus healed the sick, raised the dead, cast out demons, cleansed lepers, gave sight to blind eyes, and much more.
Compassion led Jesus to feed the multitudes (Matthew 14:15).
From multitudes to individuals, Jesus revealed the love of God to people others might look down upon , like the Samaritan woman at the well (John 4) or followers who took their eyes off of Jesus and focused on the storms like Peter (Matthew 14:31).
Jesus Came to Redeem You and Me
“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.” [Galatians 4:4-5 ESV]
God sent Jesus, His Son, into the world to redeem us. He paid the price that you and I owe because we have sinned. We have disobeyed God’s law. If Jesus hadn’t redeemed us, we would deserve separation from God forever in hell.
But Jesus came to serve others and to redeem all who would accept Him as Lord and Savior.
Jesus came into the world to live a perfect life as a man–something you and I have failed to do. He kept every law of God.
Jesus willingly took your sin and my sin, the sins of the world – past, present, and future – upon Himself. God poured out His wrath upon those sins as Jesus hung from the cross. The Son of God paid for our sins and gave up His Spirit and died on the cross – for you and me.
Jesus freed us from the penalty of our sins. We must accept His free gift and receive God’s adoption of us as sons and daughters.
The Gift of Christmas:
Jesus Came to Serve and Redeem.
No other gift compares!
Our Loving Father, thank You for the gift of Jesus. We are overwhelmed by Your love. To think that Our Creator and Holy One would sacrifice His only begotten Son and send Him into the world to serve and redeem sinful men and women is beyond our comprehension. What a gift You have given us. Help us to comprehend the height, depth, width, and length of Your love and Your gift of service and redemption. In Jesus’ name, amen.
