“Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.”Matthew 11:28-30 (ESV)
Long hours, increasing demands, 24/7 responsibilities! It seems like our world is on fire. Is our running from one demand to another getting us where we want to go?
There is a better way … a better way of life … a rest for our souls.
Jesus says “Come.” He will refresh us. He will quiet us. He will give us a patient expectation of the “more” that we need from Him.
Jesus shows us the better way of life … a rested way for our souls.Tweet
Tradition has it that Joseph was a finisher of yokes for oxen. Two oxen worked together, and their yokes were fashioned specifically for each ox. The lead ox would pull the heavier weight.
What if we took Jesus’ yoke upon us and let Him lead us in the work that we do?
He is gentle, and with Him the work that God has prepared for us to accomplish is easy, and the burden is light.
All that we need to do is “Come.”
Come to Jesus … just as we are … broken … sinners … exhausted … take His yoke … learn of Him … find rest.
With Jesus, the burden is light. Jesus gives us abundant life and rest.Tweet
Gentle Savior, in You, we have rest. Jesus, we come to You just as we are. Cause us to pause and reflect upon Your goodness, accept Your rest, learn from You, and allow You to lead us. Amen.
- Does your “to-do” list grow by the minute? Talk to God about that list.
- Ask God what rest looks like in your life.
- What actions will you take today?
How is Jesus teaching you to rest in Him?
