“Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, even so I am sending you.’ And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.’”
John 20:21-22 (ESV)
After His resurrection, Jesus left His disciples with two gifts and one commission. He gave them peace and the Holy Spirit as a seal upon them, showing that they belong to Jesus and are protected by Jesus (2 Corinthians 1:22). The commission? To go into all the world proclaiming the Good News (Matthew 28:19-20).
Jesus, His name means “God With Us,” was sent into the world to proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom of Heaven. He came to bring peace with God. Jesus bought that peace with His life.
But Jesus didn’t leave His disciples on their own. He gave them the Holy Spirit Who would guide them in all that they would do and say.
“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. ‘Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.’“
John 14:26-27 (LSB)
The Holy Spirit has been given to every believer to teach us, correct us, refine our prayers, give us the words to say when we need them, and much more. The Holy Spirit multiplies our knowledge of God and transforms our minds.
The Holy Spirit produces fruit in our lives. Love. Joy. Peace. Patience. Kindness. Goodness. Faithfulness. Gentleness. Self-Control.
The Holy Spirit gives us peace. In the middle of the hurricanes of life, we can be in the eye of the hurricane—still, at peace, as we watch the whirling winds and waters around us.
Jesus gives peace and breathes life into His followers, sending them into the world with the Good News that brings life forever.

Thank You, Father, for the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit, You give us peace in the chaos. You correct us when we step off the path God has set before us. You teach us more about God, and You give us the words to say, when we need them. Thank You. Amen.
