“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you;
righteous and having salvation is he,
humble and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” Zechariah 9:9
Jesus’ hour has come. It is time to enter Jerusalem as the King who brings peace with God. Thousands of sacrificial lambs are in the city. Yet, there is only one Perfect Sacrifice, the Lamb of God. The Righteous One who will save the people, save us from our sins.
The crowd lays their cloaks on the road where His donkey is walking. Some cut palm tree leaves and put them on the ground or wave them. Rejoicing is everywhere. The crowd walks before Him and behind Him shouting.
“Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” Matthew 21:9b
Here is our King, humble and righteous. Knowing what lies before Him, He carries salvation with Him. Forgiveness forever. The True and Perfect Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. The one Perfect Sacrifice enters Jerusalem to be examined for His purity – His perfection.
Can you picture Him? He has you in mind as He enters the city.
For you. For me. For the world.
He enters the city to take away sins and to conquer death.
“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13
Father, thank You for sending Your Son to lay down His life so that we can live with You forever. Such love is pure, humble, holy, and joyous. We have sinned, forgive, Lord. Jesus, thank You for taking our sins away with Your own death, burial, and resurrection. O Lord, we love and adore You. Thank You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
