Praise Broke the Silence … Glory! … Peace!

And the angel said to them, ‘Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.’ And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom He is pleased!’”

Luke 2:10-14 (ESV)

The angels couldn’t help it. They had Good News to share. The Savior of the world, the One who brings Light and Life, God With Us has come. Praise broke the silence. Glory! Peace!

Shepherds were watching their flocks in the night. Some think the shepherds were tending the sheep that would be sacrificed in the temple.

In a few years, the Savior will be sacrificed as the Lamb of God.

The darkness of the night was pierced by the light of the angels. The silence was broken by a multitude of the heavenly host praising God.

Fear struck the shepherds. But there was nothing to fear. There was great joy to be experienced.

The Messiah had come!

“Let’s go see our Savior.”

They hurried to Bethlehem and beheld the baby in wonder. Soon, every person they saw heard the news and wondered at what the shepherds told them. The shepherds returned to their flocks praising the Lord.

“But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.”

 Luke 2:19 (ESV)

Light pierced darkness. Praise broke silence.
Messiah has come!

“‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom He is pleased!

Glory to God and peace to those who please Him.

God of Wonders, You honor the lowly and elevate them. You use the unlikely to herald Your great works and Your majesty. We treasure all that You have done through Jesus and all that You are doing through us. Use us, Lord, for Your glory. Amen.

Reflections

  1. Read Luke 2:8-21. What does the Scripture imply about God? What does the Scripture say about the shepherds?
  2. Does Mary intrigue you? How?
  3. How will you personalize this devotion?

How are you glorifying God? Do you have His peace?

What a beautiful post. I love your title: “Praise broke the silence.” This is such a powerful concept I wish more people could grasp. Praise opens the windows of heaven. I have witnessed many miracles during people’s praise.

Thank you for your gracious response. Yes, praise breaks through to open the windows of heaven. As we praise, we turn our focus from ourselves onto the Lord of Creation, the Mighty God, our Loving Father. If only we sought the things above more than the things below. May your praise fill your days as you prepare to celebrate the coming of our Lord and Savior. Karen
