The Promise Keeper in a World of Broken Promises

Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.” Hebrews 10:23 (NLT)

I practiced hard. Arms lifted high, I leaped around the house. Repeating angel thoughts and words, I twirled in the white dress, watching the silver tinsel garland on the hem sparkle. The grandest promise of my young years. In a few short days, I was going to dance across the stage with other little angels in celebration of the birth of Jesus.

I have to dance, I’m an angel,” I pleaded with my Mama.

“But you’re sick.”

“Please, please, please.”

Devastated, I felt betrayed. Yes, I was sick. Yes, Mama made the right decision. Yes, a promise that she couldn’t keep.

Friend, do you remember unkept promises, the failed promises that broke your heart? Perhaps they are searing your soul right now. Promises you couldn’t keep. Promises that others broke.

The world is heartbroken over the unkept promises today. Lives shattered. Lives lost. Lives searching for answers. Fearful lives.

We live in a world of promise makers whose decisions ignore their promises. But there is one Promise Keeper. His promises always come to pass … God Almighty.

The Promise

Our Creator knows the beginning from the end. His promises do not fail. Although we have rejected His commands and have sinned against Him, He offers us forgiveness and an everlasting home with Him. We can trust this promise.

“By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.” Hebrews 10:20-22 (NLT)

The promise of eternal life with God.

But we must possess the promise.

Possess God’s Promise. Go Into His Presence.

The Israelites could not enter the Holy of Holies (the Most Holy Place) that kept the Ark of the Covenant. Only the High Priest could enter the Holy of Holies once a year (Hebrews 9). Although Jesus knew no sin, He took your sins and my sins upon Himself and became the Perfect Sacrifice to pay for our sins. He provided the way into the very throne room of God. To possess His promise of salvation, we must walk into God’s presence. That takes trust, friend.

Jesus has cleansed us of our sins so that we can spend eternity with Him.

Our Promise Keeper, You are the great I AM, the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. You know all things. You are all-powerful. Your promises stand forever. We trust Your Word and cling to Your promises. Cause a great awakening, Lord. Bring a revival to Your people. Cause us to trust in You and Your life-giving way. Turn weeping into joy. Bring wisdom and courage to our world’s leaders. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Please pray for God’s people to humble ourselves, seek the Lord’s face, confess our sins and turn from them. Ask God to heal our nations.
