Promises broken, promises fulfilled. Hopes shattered, hopes realized. Yesterday’s hopes and promises have been smashed in America.

But there is hope.

It’s one of the many promises of God.

2020 was going to be a breakthrough year for me.

We’d hoped to travel to Germany and Greece in May. We’d paid for the trip and bought an extra excursion.

I’d hoped to attend a much anticipated conference this summer.

Hopes dashed with COVID-19.

But my hopes were too small.

My disappointment was turned to joy when Keith started working from home. Instead of commuter traffic, he walks a few steps to his office. For lunch and after 5:00 p.m., he now takes long walks with me. In the evenings, we watch the hummingbirds and admire the magnolia blossoms and roses.

The conference was canceled – for awhile. It will now commence virtually. Unexpectedly, other opportunities opened up, including learning more technology.

God had other plans – greater blessings poured out upon us.

“Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” Romans 5:5

Jesus told His followers that He would ask His Father to send you and me a Helper, the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth and that He would abide in us, John 14:16-17.

This has been a time of leaning into what is true and holy. Cutting the unimportant. Considering the important. Weeping for our world. Praying for revival. Seeking God’s face.

There is a reason for our hope.

Not only are our bodies the temple of the Holy Spirit, 1 Corinthians 6:19, but also, Jesus is in us, and He is our hope, the hope of glory, Colossians 1:27.

The Holy Spirit was sent to us to guide us in all truth, and that hope of truth, that expectation of God’s truth, that hope of Jesus in us, the hope of glory, is all we need, John 16:8.

“God is our refuge and strength
A very present help in trouble.”
Psalm 46:1

Father, we bow before You, humbling ourselves. Forgive us, Lord of All. We turn from our wickedness. We seek Your face. Heal our land. Send revival and an awakening. Turn our nation to You. Pour out Your abundant blessings upon Your people. Give us courage to point people to You. We believe in Your promises. Help our unbelief. In Jesus, the hope of glory, we pray. Amen.

Please share how I can pray for you. What is your hope?
