Hosanna! Jesus Saves!

Mount of Olives - 1Looking up the present-day Mount of Olives.

Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: “Hosanna to the Son of David! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!’ Hosanna in the highest!” Matthew 21:9

Passover was just six days away. Mary anointed the feet of Jesus with a year’s wages worth of spikenard and wiped His feet with her hair. The room filled with a beautiful fragrance, and He told the room full of friends that Mary had just anointed Him for burial. John 12:3

The next day, Jesus looked down from the Mount of Olives onto Jerusalem. Lambs were being led down the Mount of Olives to the temple for inspection and later for sacrificing on Passover.

The people heard that Jesus was entering Jerusalem–their King, their Messiah, the One who raised Lazarus from the dead, who healed many, who fed thousands, and who performed many signs and miracles. Jesus was entering Jerusalem.

He mounted a donkey to ride down the Mount of Olives. The people gathered palm branches and laid their cloaks on the ground in respect and honor.

They shouted: “Hosanna to the Son of David! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!’ Hosanna in the highest!”

Jesus looked out upon the cheering crowd from His donkey. I can imagine Him thinking,

“Hosanna, save now,” you shout.
Indeed, I come to save you from your sins.
I AM the stone that the builders rejected.
Soon, I will hear “Crucify Him, crucify Him!”
But this is the appointed day of rejoicing.
I come to bless you with peace–peace with God.
Truly, truly I AM your Savior.
I AM your Passover lamb, the perfect sacrifice.
I AM the way, the truth, and the life, the only way.
I lay down My life for My friends.
I ask you, become My friend, My follower.
I paid the price for your sins.
I am the Resurrection and Life.
My love for you endures forever.

Lord Jesus, “Hosanna,” save now.

Today is the day of salvation.
