The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Luke 1:35

“What? The Holy Spirit who overshadowed Mount Sinai when God gave Moses the Ten Commandments is going to overshadow me? I’m just a poor girl from Nazareth, engaged to a humble carpenter.”

“Nothing is impossible with God,” said Gabriel.

“Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her. Luke 1:37-38

Dirt-poor. Wrong neighborhood, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?”

Soon-to-be pregnant. Unmarried.

Nothing is impossible with God.

Overshadowed by the Holy Spirit.

Servant of the Lord.

Blessed.

The Creator of the Universe used an earthen vessel to change your destiny and my destiny. She lived in an uncomfortable time and home. She had no resources, but she surrendered all she had. Mary surrendered her body and her future to God Almighty.

The Power of the Holy Spirit overshadowed her.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

May you consider surrendering all that you have to God Almighty. He will use you in a mighty way.

Mary’s gift: Complete surrender to God.

God’s gift: His Son, Jesus.

My prayer

Our Father in heaven, thank You for sending Your Son to save us from our sins. Thank You for showing us a completely surrendered young girl as an example of the surrender You want from us. Overshadow us with the Holy Spirit and use us to make a difference in Your kingdom. This Christmas, quicken our hearts to meditate on Your gift to the world, and empower us to lay our bodies, our minds, our spirits, and our future at Your feet. We love You, Lord. Amen.
