Experiencing the Supernatural – A Review

For some Christians, the physical world dominates their thinking and their actions. They miss much of the supernatural experience that is available to them.

Rabbi Schneider, a Messianic Jewish Rabbi, challenges the readers to ask if they live as if God’s Word is superior and “reigns above the visible world.” (p. 16)

What if Christians lived like they really believed what Scripture reveals?

Experiencing the Supernatural: How to Saturate Your Life with the Power and Presence of God is a thoughtful examination of the power of God that is available to each Christian.

The very essence of Christianity is built upon the supernatural. God’s only begotten Son became a man who knew no sin to pay the price of the sin of the world – past, present, and future. That price was death upon the cross. Jesus was our sacrifice. Jesus died on the cross, was buried in a borrowed tomb, and rose the third day, conquering death itself. He is now in heaven praying for all His followers.

That is supernatural beyond what we can understand. Yet, Christians sometimes lose sight of the power in that miracle and in God working in us.

Rabbi Schneider wants us to become more sensitive to the everyday signs, wonders, miracles, prophecies, dreams, and visions in God’s kingdom.

He emphasizes the need to wait upon God in quiet meditation to discover “the mysteries of His heart. … The other half of the story is that God will move in response to your faith.” (p. 131)

He writes of blind Bartimaeus approaching Jesus and asking for healing as well as the woman who had a hemorrhage of blood for 12 years pressing against the crowd to touch the hem of His garment. Both took action to connect with Jesus.

This book is focused upon obtaining a supernatural experience rather than on a relationship with God. It contains helpful information, and, yet, it needs to be balanced with the entire counsel of God. He does not consider Jesus’ frustration after He fed the 4,000 and the Pharisees wanted Him to give them another sign:

And he sighed deeply in his spirit and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation. Mark 8:12

Although Rabbi Schneider urges us to seek supernatural experiences like prophecy, signs, wonders, healings, and miracles, he writes

God is by nature a healer. We should believe Him for complete and total healing. But we need to remember that God is sovereign, and His ways are beyond our ways. Why some are healed instantly, some over time, and some not until they go to be with the Lord, I do not know. As Paul said, “For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will  know fully.” (p. 158)

Helpful study questions for each chapter are included in the back of the book.

With all teachings, including this blog, please search the Scriptures and let the Holy Spirit guide you.

The church today is being exposed to an unusual level of miracles as thousands of believers have discovered “believing” the way Jesus practiced. It’s good to discover this book.

Thank you, Lynn. I do take it seriously. I want to give a good review, but I need to keep those readers in mind who might not season the author with the entire counsel of God. Be blessed today. Karen

That’s so wonderful you got a copy of the book to review 🙂 it certainly seems like an interesting book! I agree with these points, and just last night was reminded God heals everyone, the good and the bad, but our faith and hinder His miracles and healing.

T.R. It is a good book as long as you keep focused on the entire counsel of God, knowing that our Christian walk goal is not our supernatural experience but our relationship with God. God does heal all His children, whether in this life or in eternity. Yes, indeed, we can limit God and His work in our lives. I think Americans have a tendency to do this. I know that I do. May you be blessed. Karen

I agree, unfortunately there tends to be a lot of focus on parts of the supernatural with minor focus being on Christ.
