The Will of God – It’s About Our Relationship with Him

For I [Jesus] have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. John 6:38-40

Have you ever wondered what the will of God was for your life? Jesus knew the will of God for His life, and He lived it out.

Jesus roamed the country preaching the Good News – news that God loves His people and has made a way for them to enter into a relationship with God through His Son, Jesus.

Jesus raised the dead, gave sight to the blind, touched the leper with healing, fed the multitudes, walked on water, turned water to wine, cast out demons, calmed the seas, and much more – all in the name of His Father.

Jesus shed His glory that He had with God in heaven to become a helpless baby, walk this earth, serve, and pay the price of our sin, our rebellion.

The price for that sin is death. Jesus came to die on the cross to pay the price of your sin and my sin.

Jesus came to defeat the curse of sin: death. He died, but three days later, the Holy Spirit raised Him from the dead! He’s now at the right hand of God, speaking on your behalf if you are His follower.

Jesus did the will of the Father while He was on earth, and we’re to do the will of God while we’re on earth.

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father. Galatians 1:3-4

But what is the will of God for our lives?

How do we do the will of God?

Knowing God’s will for our lives

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:1-2

It’s all about our relationship with God. It’s all about complete surrender. Jesus presented His body as the perfect sacrifice. He knew no sin, and, yet, He took your sin and my sin upon Himself and died in our place on that cross.

To know God’s will, we must surrender our bodies as living sacrifices. The Holy Spirit will renew our minds, and we will know the will of God for our lives.

Knowing is good.

The second part is the “doing.”

Doing God’s Will

Jesus told His disciples to abide in Him, John 15:4.

And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us. 1 John 3:23-24

We abide in Jesus by believing in Jesus, John 3:16 and loving other Christians, John 13:34.

Out of believing and loving, we find that three actions help us in our daily walks.

  1. Reading and meditating on the Word of God (the Bible), Joshua 1:8.
  2. Praying for the knowledge of God’s will.
  3. Assemblying with other Christians, Hebrews 10:25.

Jesus said that He is the vine, and we are the branches. We must stay attached to Him to live and to produce fruit.

It’s about complete union with Jesus … it’s about our relationship with Jesus.

And our response will be to give Him thanks in everything, for this is His will in Christ Jesus for us.

My prayer

Our Father in heaven, Your name is holy, and we hallow Your name. Your kingdom reign on earth, in our lives, in our families, in our cities, and in our nation. We long for Your will to be done, Father. Teach us Your will for our nation, our cities, our families and for our lives. Lord, empower us to abide in You and keep Your commandments as You teach us Your will. We present our bodies as a living sacrifice to You. Renew our minds and transform us into the men and women You want us to be. We love You, Father, and thank You for Your abundant mercy, grace, and peace. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.

Please tell us how the Lord has shown you His will for your life.

Thank you, Madison. God is such an artist, if we just stop and notice His creation. Can you really, I mean REALLY imagine that Almighty God, Creator of the Universe, the Alpha and Omega, wants a relationship, a deep relationship with you and me? It blows my mind. God is good … all the time … He is GOOD! Many blessings, Karen

T.R., You are like Jeremiah. He was afraid to tell the people what God told him to tell the Israelites because of his age, but God told him to speak out. God was with him and blessed him. Like Jeremiah, if you remain silent, God’s Word will burn within you. So, speak out. You are making a difference for the Lord. He has prepared the works you will do from before the foundation of the world, and He will equip you. He told Joshua, “be strong and very courageous” three times. Those are the words the Lord has given to me for you. Be strong and very courageous, mediate on the Word of the Lord day and night, and watch the Lord work. He is pleased with you. I am honored to get to know you. May the Lord anoint you with His oil and give you a double portion of the Holy Spirit. Karen

Thank you so much! I needed to hear this. 🙂 For years I’ve related to Jeremiah and God telling him not to be afraid because of his youth. Your words speak to me very deeply <3 God be with you!

I used to think my writing couldn’t reach people, that I’d be shut out by other Christians, because as a teenager, that’s what tended to happen both with adults and peers. I also struggle with confidence in myself because of toxic friendships I had growing up, and feeling walked on. When I was in college, I wanted to increase my relationship with Christ, just as I had down when I was 13. I did, what I refer to, as my Jericho walk. I was on a track and walked around seven times talking to God and asking for His advice and help. Then one of the first lessons He ever gave me was this, “I will always provide another way.” I’ve taken those words to heart, in the darkest of situations. My whole life, my journey with Him, He uses in my writing. He’s provided for me up until this point, and I don’t want to look back. My calling is for believers, and one of my gifts is to give others encouragement. <3
