For I [Jesus] have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. John 6:38-40

Have you ever wondered what the will of God was for your life? Jesus knew the will of God for His life, and He lived it out.

Jesus roamed the country preaching the Good News – news that God loves His people and has made a way for them to enter into a relationship with God through His Son, Jesus.

Jesus raised the dead, gave sight to the blind, touched the leper with healing, fed the multitudes, walked on water, turned water to wine, cast out demons, calmed the seas, and much more – all in the name of His Father.

Jesus shed His glory that He had with God in heaven to become a helpless baby, walk this earth, serve, and pay the price of our sin, our rebellion.

The price for that sin is death. Jesus came to die on the cross to pay the price of your sin and my sin.

Jesus came to defeat the curse of sin: death. He died, but three days later, the Holy Spirit raised Him from the dead! He’s now at the right hand of God, speaking on your behalf if you are His follower.

Jesus did the will of the Father while He was on earth, and we’re to do the will of God while we’re on earth.

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father. Galatians 1:3-4

But what is the will of God for our lives?

How do we do the will of God?

Knowing God’s will for our lives

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:1-2

It’s all about our relationship with God. It’s all about complete surrender. Jesus presented His body as the perfect sacrifice. He knew no sin, and, yet, He took your sin and my sin upon Himself and died in our place on that cross.

To know God’s will, we must surrender our bodies as living sacrifices. The Holy Spirit will renew our minds, and we will know the will of God for our lives.

Knowing is good.

The second part is the “doing.”

Doing God’s Will

Jesus told His disciples to abide in Him, John 15:4.

And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us. 1 John 3:23-24

We abide in Jesus by believing in Jesus, John 3:16 and loving other Christians, John 13:34.

Out of believing and loving, we find that three actions help us in our daily walks.

1. Reading and meditating on the Word of God (the Bible), Joshua 1:8.
2. Praying for the knowledge of God’s will.
   • Listening for God, Revelation 2 and 3.
   • Responding to God, Isaiah 6:8. In the response to God, we recognize how majestic He is and how bankrupt we are.
   • Asking for His perfect wisdom, James 1:5, James 4:2
3. Assemblying with other Christians, Hebrews 10:25.

Jesus said that He is the vine, and we are the branches. We must stay attached to Him to live and to produce fruit.

It’s about complete union with Jesus … it’s about our relationship with Jesus.

And our response will be to give Him thanks in everything, for this is His will in Christ Jesus for us.

 

 

My prayer

Our Father in heaven, Your name is holy, and we hallow Your name. Your kingdom reign on earth, in our lives, in our families, in our cities, and in our nation. We long for Your will to be done, Father. Teach us Your will for our nation, our cities, our families and for our lives. Lord, empower us to abide in You and keep Your commandments as You teach us Your will. We present our bodies as a living sacrifice to You. Renew our minds and transform us into the men and women You want us to be. We love You, Father, and thank You for Your abundant mercy, grace, and peace. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
