Prayer begins the Bible with God speaking the world into existence, and prayer ends the Bible with an “Even so, Come, Lord Jesus.” Revelation 22:20 

The Bible is a sweet love letter to us, the beginning of a conversation with God. He is just waiting for us to respond.

In the Bible, we are encouraged to wrap up everything we do in prayer.

Prayer is a continuation of a love relationship that God began when He said, “Let Us make man in our image.” Genesis 1:26

He formed man out of the dust of the earth and woman from the man, and He said all that He had made was “very good.” Genesis 1:31

God walked with Adam and Eve in the cool of the day in the Garden of Eden – prayer. I wonder what they talked about.

Can you imagine walking in the Garden of Eden with God … listening to your Creator … responding to Him? That’s prayer.

We have something even better than the Garden of Eden. We don’t have to wait until the cool of the day. Our Father, the Creator of the Universe, walks with His children every moment of the day. He’s started the conversation, and He’s waiting for us to respond.

God has always initiated prayer. He thundered on Mount Sinai as He gave the Law to Moses, and the Israelites trembled and watched at the bottom of the mountain.

God met with Moses in the tent of meeting in the wilderness and led the Israelites in the wilderness by a cloud in the day and a pillar of fire at night.

Almighty God loved David’s Psalms so much that some of them are recorded. These prayers of anguish, adoration, supplication, and wonder became the prayer song book of the Israelites and are cherished today by both Jews and Christians.

God spoke to the prophets and gave them messages to warn and guide the Israelites.

Finally, God sent Jesus. The disciples observed Jesus as He prayed all night.

They saw Him get up early in the morning and retreat to the top of the mountain.

They saw His anguish in the Garden of Gethsemane.

They knew prayer was important to the Son of God.

Finally, the disciples said, “Lord, teach us to pray.”

Jesus prayed for His disciples, and He prayed for you and me in John 17. He prayed that His followers would be unified with Him and with each other. He prayed for our protection.

Throughout the New Testament, prayer shows the way.

We’re even told that when our prayers are imperfect, the Holy Spirit perfects them on their way to God.

We’re told that God considers our prayers a sweet fragrance, pleasing to Him.

Prayer Walk

I plan to take a prayer walk in the next nine weeks. I’d love for you to join me.

This walk may have some moss growing on the path, and we may stumble on branches in the way. We may meander at times.

I’m hoping that we will discover sights, sounds, fragrances, and feelings that we’ve never experienced. After all, we’ll be walking with the Creator of the Universe Who wants us to call Him, “Father … Daddy.”

My Prayer

Our Father, we are so very blessed that You desire to walk with us through this adventure called life. Oh, how You must love us! You walk with us. You talk with us. You gave Your only begotten Son to pay the price of our sins, so that we could walk with You and talk with You forever. Lord, teach us to pray! Lord, teach us Your ways! Father, we want more of You, more prayer. In Jesus’ Holy Name, we pray. Amen.
