God Will Increase Your Influence

“Oh that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and that You would keep me from harm that it may not pain me!” And God granted him what he requested. 1 Chronicles 4:10

Root-bound.

I recently repotted my mint and basil. The herbs just weren’t looking right. The mint was tough and getting brown, and the basil wasn’t growing as rapidly as it usually does.

Tangled roots dug deep into the soil through the holes in the pot. I cut the roots at the bottom of the pot, so that I could pull the herbs from the pot.  The roots encased the soil, keeping the shape of the pot when I pulled them out of the pot. I sliced the roots, poured new soil into the pot, placed the trimmed basil in the pot, watered it and trusted that it would thrive.

It is.

My roots have been bound like the herbs. Bound doing good things. Bound learning new ways of achieving goals.  Bound in my job. All good, but bound in the pot of the great organization.

My prayer has been to make a greater impact. I want the Lord to enlarge my border.

He pulled me out of the pot, cut my roots, and is replanting me in new soil. I don’t know how far my cut roots will take me, but I know that God will enlarge my borders. He did it for Jabez, and He will do it for me.

It takes some discomfort. It takes pulling ourselves out of the pot. It takes cutting our boundaries, so that we can spread out our roots.

But we’ll flourish if we spread those roots out where God leads.

Have you asked God to enlarge your borders?

Please share in the comment section how God is  enlarging your borders.

My prayer

Ruler of all borders, we honor the areas that You have placed us. Like Abraham, You sometimes ask us to cut our roots and enlarge our borders. Father, we tend to become root-bound. We like being comfortable in our pots. Enlarge our borders, Lord. Cut our roots, so that we will make a greater impact upon others for You. We thank You for enlarging our borders. Take us by the right hand and lead us to new horizons, so that we can point people to you. All blessing, honor, and glory are Yours, our Lord.
