5 Tips to Falling in Love with God’s Word

Slide1

Flitting from one flower to another, sucking pollen or nectar until her sac is full, then off to the beehive where thousands of honey bees feverishly work. It takes 300 bees 3 weeks to make 450 grams or almost a pound of honey. (Australian Honey Bee Industry Council)

All that hard work for a pound of sweetness. Honey was used in Bible times instead of sugar, and the Promised Land was a land flowing with milk and honey. It was an honored gift, Genesis 43:11. Honey also coats a sore throat and revives energy.

How sweet is the Bible to you? Is it sweeter to you than honey?

The Word of God will always be sweet to the Christian because it so completely quickens him to every good thing when it comes in contact with him. Spurgeon

To reward myself, I sometimes eat a piece of dark chocolate. I let it melt in my mouth, and I relish the taste.

The Word of God is like that. When we slowly read the Bible as we read a love letter, we hang on every word. We re-read the words and ponder them. As we ponder them, they become sweeter to us. And we want more.

If God shall give you a promise, you will taste it, like a wafer of honey, and feed on it. And if He shall give you a precept, you will not stop to look at it, and say, “Lord, I don’t like this as well as the promise,” but you will receive that and feed upon that also! And when the Lord shall be pleased afterwards to give you some revelation with regard to your inward experience, or to your fellowship with His dear Son, you welcome it with joy because you love any Truth and every Truth as long as you know it to be the Truth of God’s own Word!

It is a blessed sign of Grace in the heart when God’s Words are sweet to us as a whole—when we love the Truth of God, not cast into a system or a shape, but as we find it in God’s Word. Spurgeon

Do you want more of the sweetness of God’s Word?

5 Tips to Falling in Love with God’s Word

  1. Read your Bible every day.
Kings were to write the Law on their very own scroll in front of the Levitical priests. “It shall be with him and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, by carefully observing all the words of this law and these statutes.” Deuteronomy 17:19
  2. Meditate on what you have read
“This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.” Joshua 1:8
  3. Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you what He wants you to learn.
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” John 14:26
  4. Pray the Scriptures
    I rise before dawn and cry for help;
I wait for Your words. Psalm 119:147
  5. Thank the Lord for His words
“For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.” 2 Peter 1:4

“O, Taste and see that the Lord is good!” Psalm 34:8

My prayer

Father, thank You for Your Word. It is sweeter than honey, and it is good. I pray that Your followers will fall in love with Your Word and find it to be sweeter than honey, refreshing, healing, and beautiful. Make us hungry for Your sweet Word. Thank You, Father. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Jeremiah 29:13 “you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.” Is one of my favorite scriptures because if the promise of God that in our seeking we find Him!
