6 Years Healed!

slide1

Do you not know? Have you not heard?
The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth
Does not become weary or tired.
His understanding is unsearchable.
He gives strength to the weary,
And to him who lacks might He increases power.
Though youths grow weary and tired,
And vigorous young men stumble badly,
Yet those who wait for the Lord
Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary. Isaiah 40:28-31

Six years ago, I suffered from fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. I was to the point of resigning from the job of my dreams. I believed that God had placed me there to make a difference. But the pills and alternative therapies no longer worked. My doctor wanted to put me on disability, but I refused, so he reduced my days of work. I was devastated.

One weekend, I decided to give up. Maybe I misunderstood the Lord’s plan for me.

I decided to go on disability and honor the Lord while in my pain, brain fog, fatigue, and weakness.

Six years ago today, Keith and I slipped into a healing service. I’d been prayed for many times. I’d been anointed with oil. I’d had hands laid on me. Nothing.

That day, my prayer was not “God, heal me.” My prayer was, “Father, I don’t care any more about the healing, I just want more of YOU!”

We saw people we knew healed. One woman was scheduled for cataract surgery that Tuesday. She came back to her seat seeing clearly. One man seated next to us went forward with a deaf ear. He returned crying.

After the pastor called for those in chronic pain to come forward, Keith grabbed my arm and marched me down to the front. This wasn’t the first time the pastor laid hands on me. Two years before, he laid hands on me and told me “You have much to do.” No words of healing … much to do.

After those words, Keith and I pressed into the Word like we had never done before. We had some learning – and unlearning – to do as we waited in expectation for the Lord to work.

Two years later, the Lord healed!

Two months later, I ran, flying a kite, on a San Diego beach. Impossible with the pain I endured before the Lord’s healing.

The kite in the photo hangs in my bathroom. Every day, I see it as I’m taking a shower. It reminds me of His work in me.

Six years later, I’m still learning.

  1. I must actively wait for the Lord. I’m eagerly seeking His work in my life. I trust that He is working.
For nine months, I eagerly waited and prepared for the birth of our daughter. There was discomfort (an understatement) along the way and pain in the birth process, but this did not matter. I anticipated the miracle of a new life to love, nurture, and watch grow into a beautiful woman.
  2. I know that I will gain new strength as I wait upon Him. This new strength is different for each person.
Joni Eareckson Tada was stripped of her Olympic prowess in a diving accident. But she found new strength in her quadriplegic body, making a great impact on disabled Americans.
  3. I will mount up and soar on the power of the Holy Spirit. Some of the largest eagles have wingspans up to eight feet; flapping those wings takes energy. The eagle flies 10,000 to 15,000 feet high and up to 65 miles an hour, soaring on warm updrafts, sometimes for hours.
The power of the Holy Spirit came upon Mary, and Jesus was conceived. Luke 1:35 It was up to Mary to take care of herself and wait upon the Lord to work in her body.
  4. I will run and not get tired. David declares that he “will run in the way of your commandments when you enlarge my heart.” Psalm 119:32 “… let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” Hebrews 12:1
Pastor Chuck Smith, founder of the Calvary Chapel movement, ran with endurance toward the prize of the high calling. He even preached a few days before he went home to be with the Lord at 86-years-old. He said that he just stood back and watched the Lord work.
  5. I will walk and not grow weary. “As for you, brothers, do not grow weary in doing good.” 2 Thessalonians 3:1 It’s not easy to “turn the other cheek” when a colleague spreads rumors about you.
Yet, David rejoiced in his Shepherd who led him through the valley of the shadow of death and spread a table for him in the presence of his enemies. Psalm 23

The key: We can “know” these truths and not live these truths. If we really believe these truths, we must flap our wings as the eagle does, expending great energy to rise above the clouds, and soar on the warm current of the Holy Spirit.

We have an Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator, the All-Wise One our HEALER! My Lord doesn’t become weary or tired, but He gives strength to the weary, and to those who lack might, He increases their power.

As we wait for the Lord, He empowers, and we soar, run, and walk in His way.

My prayer

Everlasting Father, Thank You for Your great and awesome ways. You are Lord. You are our Creator. You are beyond understanding. You are my Healer. Embed these truths deep within our understanding and give us the courage to risk rising above the clouds to soar on the warm current of the Holy Spirit.

Please share how the Holy Spirit is helping you to soar above the storm.

Denise, Isaiah 40:31 is my life verse. A Methodist minister introduced it to me when I was in a hospital after dropping out of college and abandoning my life dream. Little did I know that adventure that the Lord had in store for me! God is good … all the time!! May you step out your life adventure with our Great Shepherd holding your right hand. Karen

Love that Karen:) (just looked) Mine (from 2006) is Luke 1:45. And like Mary, I am filled with His Promise by the Holy Spirit as I wait:)

Awesome! Rest in that. And act on that. He will open the doors and close those He doesn’t want you to go through. Most of the open doors I’ve encountered have been ones that stretched me and I was unsure that I could accomplish what He was opening to me. That’s when He demonstrated His power, His work. In my weakness, God’s strength and wisdom shines !

Kewan, The Lord uses what we perceive to be “bad” to show us His power and to mature us. Thank you for your grace in waiting on the Lord. He will work through your waiting. Happy Thanksgiving! Karen

Reblogged this on The Lord Is With Us and commented:

A powerful testimony of HOW to receive God’s healing that Jesus Christ procured for us 2,000 years ago: truly cry out for God Himself! (And for those who are new to The Lord Is With Us, please see this page for multiple links addressing how God heals miraculously today:

Praising God for your powerful and beautiful testimony of Jesus, sister! So grateful you continue to testify of His complete healing!

Clearly the turning point for you was your desire for more of God: “That day, my prayer was not ‘God, heal me.’ My prayer was, ‘Father, I don’t care any more about the healing, I just want more of YOU!’ ” Amen!

      Thank you, Deanna,

Yes, I believe that was the turning point. I got my eyes totally off myself and upon God. I had tried many times to do that, but this night, the Holy Spirit was gracious and touched me.

May the Lord richly bless you this Thanksgiving Day and throughout the year.

      Thankfully,
      Karen
