As Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed Him, crying out, and saying, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!” And after He had come into the house, the blind men came up to Him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.” Then He touched their eyes, saying, “Be it done to you according to your faith.” Matthew 9:27-29

Jesus had a pattern; He proclaimed the gospel of the kingdom and He healed. Always.

“Have mercy on us, Son of David!”

“Why is Jesus continuing to walk away from us? We just asked Him for mercy.”

Jesus walks into the house.

“Let’s not give up. Let’s get in His face. I don’t care if He’s gone into the house. I need to see!”

“Do you believe that I am able to do this?”

“Yes, Lord.”

Jesus touched the blind men, and they were healed.

Jesus came to save us from our sins by dying on the cross and taking our sins upon Him, so that we might have eternal life.

He had to die on the cross because of our sins.

He did not have to be beaten and whipped, so that His back looked like hamburger for us to receive salvation and eternity with Him.

But He was pierced through for our transgressions,
He was crushed for our iniquities;
The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him,
And by His scourging we are healed. Isaiah 53:5

Matthew explains the healings of Jesus as a fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy.

This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: “HE HIMSELF TOOK OUR INFIRMITIES AND CARRIED AWAY OUR DISEASES.” Matthew 8:17

During the Last Supper with His disciples, Jesus explains that His body is given for us, and we are to break the bread in remembrance of Him. His body is given to take our infirmities (sicknesses) and carry away our diseases.

The cup is the new covenant, representing His blood which is poured out for us, so that we might be saved from the consequences of our sin, everlasting separation from God, experiencing His wrath in hell.

And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood.” Luke 22:19-20

Healing and salvation.

I believe that if we only understood the Lord’s body many more would be healed. Jesus bore in His body our sicknesses and our infirmities, when He was scourged for us. Pastor Chuck Smith.

The blind men persisted, even to the point of following Jesus into a house. They were desperate to see.

How desperate are you?

My prayer for you:

Father, thank You for sending Your own dear Son to be beaten and scourged, taking our sicknesses and diseases upon Him. Thank You, even more, for sending Jesus to the cross to take our sins, paying the price for our sins, so that we can spend eternity with You. Give us a boldness to persist. Give us the audacity to press close to You, so that we might see Your Glory and receive all that You have for us.
